The task
On 15 and 16 June 2026, the German Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb) and the Goethe-Institut hosted the international conference “Shaping AI: Ethics, Power, Responsibility – International perspectives on AI and structural discrimination” in Berlin. 100 participants from Germany and abroad spent two days discussing how artificial intelligence and structural discrimination are connected. To make sure everyone could follow the talks and discussions, the conference was to be interpreted simultaneously between German, English and Brazilian Portuguese. The topics called for particular care: ethics, power structures and discrimination can only be conveyed appropriately with precise and sensitive language.
Our solution
We provided experienced interpreting teams for all language combinations, working on site in Berlin on both days of the conference. Beforehand, we had thoroughly familiarised ourselves with the terminology of AI, ethics and anti-discrimination. This allowed all participants to follow the talks and discussions in their own language and to take part without a language barrier.
